Howdy!
In about three weeks' time, our great rail trip will commence. Manyyears hours in the planning, it promises to take us from the boardwalks of the Jersey shore, through the bayoux of the Deep South, the scorching deserts of the Wild West right to California's Pacific Coast (and back again, by way of Las Vegas).
For everyone's convenience (but especially our own) we've produced a map of our route:
So, up first we have New Yoik. We're flying out from London on the 6th of June in the morning, so will land, bleary-eyed, in the Big Apple sometime after lunch, local time. No time to spare, however: we only have three days to experience the delights (?) of big city livin'. We'll be staying with a very nice chappy called Milton, who just so happens to be MaryAnn's cuz. What fun.
After three crazy nights in NY we'll be in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. This is where we relax, take stock, and generally do nothing for a few days, and where Dexter gets to experience suburbia, yellow school buses, boardwalks, high school canteens, Jersey Girls and sand-covered cheese fries. Oh, and don't forget the deep-fried Oreos!
Thence to DC, to take photos in front of the White House and generally marvel at how different it is to the movies. Maybe hi-five Obama if we pass him in the street.
This is where the fun really begins. We'll be getting a train in DC and taking it to New Orleans, with a journey time clocking in at a mind-melting 23 hours (!!!). Needless to say, we won't be blogging that day. Now, neither of us has traveled to the South, or to anywhere outside of the Northeast for that matter. Dex hasn't even been out of Hampshire before, let alone to the States (jk). So this is where our collective knowledge ends, and the adventure begins. Our experiences and observations from here on will make up the content of this blog... along with photos we take along the way.
